Shanthi Women’s Group celebrate women’s day

Mangalore, Mar 10: Shanthi Women’s Group of St Jude Church, Pakshikere, celebrated International Women’s Day 2010 on March 7, Sunday. Women’s groups of Niddodi, Kirem, Kateel, Kinnigoli, Balkunje, and Mulky were present. Fr Anil D’Souza conducted the special thanksgiving mass. Members of the Shanthi Women’s Group conducted the liturgy. 

After the mass, a special programme was organized in the Church Hall at 9:45 a.m. Assistant Secretary Lucy D’Souza, and Cynthia D’Souza, a member of Shanthi Women’s Group were the comperers. Mable Cutinho, the vice president of the group, welcomed the gathering and inaugurated the programme. 

The members of all the six units presented a cultural programme of dance, songs, and skits. A few spot games were also conducted. 

A formal stage programme followed the cultural programme. Fr. Alban D’Souza, the parish priest of Pakshikere, presided over the function. Fr. Alfred J Pinto, parish priest of Kinnigoli; Sr Agnesia Frank, the organizer of Shubada in Suralpady; and Leena Roche, the president of DCCW, Mangalore were the chief guests. 

Sr Margaret, the superior of Kripalaya, Pakshikere; Edna D’Souza, the president of Shanthi Women’s Group; Louis D’Souza, vice president of the parish council; and Magdalene Saldanha, the president of Shanthi Women’s Group were also present. 

Viola Maria Noronha, research assistant and student counsellor at School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, spoke about women’s domestic, societal, and parochial roles. She stressed on the importance of exploring talents and abilities and using them to change oneself, one’s family, community, and country for the better. 

Later, prizes were distributed to the winners of the spot games. Hyacintha Miranda, the secretary of Shanthi Women’s Group, delivered the vote of thanks.
