Maoists plot to divide police force

Mangalore Today News Network

March 10: The Maoists in Karnataka are now working for the welfare of police constables with the hope that they would receive police support in the long run.

A senior IPS official said that the Maoists are demanding that police constables be given equal salaries and facilities that their seniors enjoy. The IPS official said that the Maoists feel that, by using this strategy, they can obtain the sympathy of police constables and avoid fatal encounters.

Majority of the police personnel killed or injured during police-Maoist encounters are police constables. They also comprise the majority of the police force. The Maoists feel that, by fighting for the cause of the constables, they split the police force and lessen their strength.

The officer also said that Maoists are attempting to take advantage of the state government’s industrial policy and the communal problems along coastal Karnataka.
