Cash, mobiles seized, 6 arrested for gambling in city

Mangaluru, July 30, 2016: As per information,  police raided several gambling dens in the city and arrested six people; they also seized at least  Rs 97,000 cash, three mobiles and matka slips.

M Jayaraj Shetty (49), Ritesh (35) and Keerthan Karkera (31) from Nagori, Bipin Salian (50) from Kankanady, Shivananda Shanbhag (53) and Rakesh Poojary (30) were arrested.

The CCB police raided a gambling den near Nagori bus stand and arrested Jayaraj, Ritesh and Bipin and seized Rs 90,900 cash, three mobiles and matka slips. They were handed over to the Mangaluru rural police for further investigation. The police then raided Goodshedde and arrested Shivanand and seized Rs 4,740 cash; Rakesh was arrested from near State Bank and they seized Rs 3000 cash and matka slips.

Of those arrested, Shivananda is said to have been involved and acquitted in an earlier case too.
