High Court orders renaming of Pilikula Nisargama

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, March 5: The High Court has ordered the government of Karnataka to rename Pilikula Nisargadhama, located in Vamanjoor, Mangalore, as Shivaram Karanth Nisargadhama.

Justice V Gopala Gowda, who headed the bench, ordered the renaming of the biological park after the Jananapeeta award winner within 4 weeks of hearing a petition filed by former chairman of Kannada Sahitya Academy Harikrishna Punaroor.

However, the local people, along with the Pilikula Nisargadhama Society, have raised objections on grounds that a large portion of the 400-acre park has already been renamed after Shivaram Karanth. They argue that there is no need to rename the entire park because a number of monuments have already been named after the renowned Kannada writer.
