Power Theft Responsible for Power Outage in City- Manjappa

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Nov 2: The issue of frequent power outages that the citizens of Dakshina Kannda have been suffering recently was discussed during the half-yearly public grievances meeting for Mangalore South Assembly constituency on Saturday.

Mr. Manjappa, the executive engineer of the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (MESCOM), said that these outages were primarily because 7 power units in Raichur and Bellary have stopped functioning. Therefore, the city is getting only 118 MW of power when it is supposed to get 130 MW.

He explained that, since these power stations could produce only a certain quantity of power, the output cannot be raised as per demand. This means that whenever the people of a given area use more power than is supplied to them, there will be power outages. Such power outages are due to power theft and over usage on the part of the consumers, he said.
