Goonda Act invoked against two persons

Mangaluru, May 22, 2016: Mangaluru Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar has invoked the Goonda (The Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug offenders, Gamblers, Goondas, Immoral Traffic Offenders and Slum Grabbers Act, 1985) Act against two persons involved in crimes in Ullal and other police stations in the city.

It has been invoked against Rahul (22) of Ullal and Mohammed Iqbal (37) of Shanti Nagar.

According to a press release, Rahul was allegedly involved in rioting, murder and attempt to murder cases reported in Ullal since 2014.

Mohammed Iqbal was allegedly involved in murder, robbery and dacoity reported since 2009 in Bantwal Rural, Bajpe, Ullal, Kavoor police stations. While Rahul has been moved to Mysuru Central Prision, Iqbal has been moved to Dharwad Central Prison.

The city police and the Dakshina Kannada police have already involved the Goonda Act against 10 persons.

Among those booked, include 31-year-old Safan Hussain, who is an accused in the rape of a medical student in Deralakatte in 2013, and Shishila Kiran, who is an accused in the attack on men and women near a pub on the Hampankatte Road in 2009.
