All States Must Implement RSBY - Kharge

Udupi, Nov 2: G. Shankar Family Trust in collaboration with Manipal University and Mogaveera Yuva Sanghatane organized a function for the distribution of 4,500 Arogya Suraksha Cards among the poor beneficiaries. M. Mallikarjuna Kharge, union minister for labour and employment, spoke on the occasion and informed the gathering that the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) in India has covered six crores families who are below the poverty line. 

Mr. Kharge said that RSBY has covered 60 lakh families with a smart-card-based health insurance worth Rs. 30,000 a year. The center planned to include 5 crore families in the following five years. Mentioning the fact that all Indian states had not implemented the RSBY, he said that it would be better if they implemented it. 

Lokayukta N Santhosh Hegde commented that the implementation of government health schemes was poor and fraught with leakages worth Rs. 51,000 crores. The figure given was provided by a recent report from India’s Comptroller and Auditor General. 

H S Ballal, the assistant chancellor of Mahe, presided over the function. Lalaji R Mendon, the MLA of Kaup; Vinay Kumar Sorake, the former MP; Pramod Madhavaraj, the entrepreneur; Sanjiv M S, the president of the district Mogaveer Yuva Sanghatane; Sripathi Rao, the Mahe dean; and G Shanker, the president of Shamili Trust, were present on the occasion.
