Apr 30, 2016: In a maiden case, the Kundapur Additional and Sessions Court awarded death penalty to Satish Poojary from Hemmadi for allegedly murdering a woman in 2010. This rare judgment came on Apr 28, Thursday.

Satish, a married man, owned a fancy shop in Hemmadi. He developed an illicit relationship with Akkayya alias Jaya from Noojadi village. It is said that Jaya demanded Satish to marry her and thus he decided to kill her. After murdering her in an Omni at Trasi beach, he kept her body in the car near his shop the whole day and at night he dumped her body at Kuloor Cross.

A case was registered at Gangolli police station and the then Circle Inspector Madan V Gaonkar filed a  chargesheet. Satish was arrested and produced before court, but was granted bail on surety.

The allegations were finally proved and the sentence was passed.
