Assault Case Registered against Police Officer

14 October 2009

Panambur DSP Girish is now facing a criminal case of assault under the guise of interrogation. Following a complaint lodged by Moodushedde Harish, the junior magistrate (first class) court issued an order than a criminal case should be registered against DSP Girish.

DSP Girish stands accused of assaulting Bajrang Dal activist Yedapadav Harish, resident of Yedapadav, who was arrested and brought to Bajpe Police Station on October 10, Saturday for his alleged involvement in an assault case. At this time, DSP Girish allegedly assaulted Girish by kicking him and dashing his head against the wall.

At noon on the same day, Harish was produced in court. He complained that DSP Girish had not only assaulted him, but also threatened that he would slap a murder case on him and shoot him in an encounter.

The judge instantly sent Harish for medical examination and ordered that a criminal case be registered against DSP Girish. At present, Harish is receiving treatment for his injuries at Wenlock Hospital. The lawyer who represented Harish in this case is Mr. P. P. Hegde.

The members of Bajrang Dal have planned to stage a protest in front of the deputy commissioner’s office on October 13, Tuesday. Mr. Sharan Pumpwell, the district convener of the Dal, said that Bajrang Dal demands immediate action be taken against the DSP. He remarked that police officers, who hold responsible positions, ought not to misuse their power and assault people under the guise of interrogation.
