Touring library resumes its joy

Mangaluru, Nov 22, 2015 :  Deputy Director of City Central Library K.V. Raghavendra said the library launched in 1987 had been of great use in the art of reading for Mangalureans for many years.

The Library on Wheels unit of City Central Library, Mangaluru, which had become defunct for over four years, has now got a fresh lease of life.  Mounted on a brand new vehicle, the M.S. Ekambara Rao Memorial Library on Wheels was launched by Mayor Jacintha Vijaya Alfred and others on the occasion of National Library Week celebrations.

Now the department has bought a new vehicle and equipped it with facilities at a total cost of Rs. 25,86,794. It has an LCD television, DVD player, public address system and GPS.

It also offers purified drinking water to the users.  The library has nearly 10,000 titles from various branches of literature, including stories, poems, novels, science, current affairs, competitive examinations, and many more.

The library would be stationed at 21 designated places on specified date and timings and people could make use of the facility between Tuesdays and Saturdays.  The library on wheels would not tour the city on Sundays, Mondays and government holidays, Mr. Raghavendra informs.
