Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Sep 4, 2015 : A weather monitoring equipment caused a flutter in a village in Belthangady taluk after it was found abandoned on the roof of a house.

The parachute-like object, with a camera attached to it, was found on the roof of Guttu Subba Malekudiya’s house on Thursday morning.

Suspecting it to be an object meant for spying, the residents alerted the Belthangady police.

The Belthangady police seized the object. Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. said that the object recovered was Radiosonde, an upper air observation device, of the India Meteorological Department.

The Radiosonde is allowed to float in the air to monitor the weather.

After its life ends, the Radiosonde either falls into the sea or the earth. Readings from the Radiosonde recovered from the house of Guttu Subba Malekudiya were being recovered at the IMD office in Mangaluru, Mr. Sharanappa said.
