Merger of schools proposed to improve them

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, Sep 2, 2015 : In an interaction with media, Walter D’Mello, Deputy Director, Department of Public Instruction, said that the department was examining whether some schools  in Puttur and Sullia taluks, could be merged and developed as model ones. Once they were merged, the department could arrange for a free bus facility as students from nearby areas could come to the schools. Thus those schools could be saved from closure.

It was suggested that instead of closing down Kannada medium government schools facing dearth of students, they could be used to teach special children. Now, there were no hostels for special children in the district. Hostels could be built near those schools.

A participant pointed out that many schools did not have toilets. Even if they had there was no proper water facility. This was a drawback for attracting students to schools. Hence it should be ensured that all schools had toilets with enough water facility. The suggestions would be sent to the government.
