Farmers urge CAMPCO to lead an agitation, other protests too

Mangaluru, Sep 1, 2015 :  DK farmers  urged CAMPCO - Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd,  to take a lead in opposing the Nethravati diversion project (Yettinahole project).

At the annual general meeting of CAMPCO here some farmers demanded that all should oppose the project keeping the future of Dakshina Kannada in mind, which received a huge applause from the gathering.   They said that the cooperative, a body of farmers, should lead an agitation.

The outgoing president of the cooperative, Konkodi Padmanabha, who is one of the directors of the Board of Directors of CAMPCO that was constituted, agreed to it and said that the cooperative would oppose it.

Prayers in temple, mosque and churches :   Tulunada Rakshana Vedike  begins its agitations against the Nethravati diversion project with prayers in a temple, a mosque and a church.   It would pray against the project at Mangaladevi temple at 11 a.m. on Monday.  Later, prayers would be said at Hazrath Saidani Bibi Dargah, A. B. Shetty Circle, and at Rosario Church at Pandeshwar in the noon, according to a release from the vedike.   It would organise “padayatra” in different places in the city on September 3 and distribute pamphlets to muster people’s support against the project.   The vedike would launch a “janagagruti ratha” and organise corner meetings from September 18.
