NH 66 works in Padubidri, DSS condemns delay in widening

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Aug 5, 2015 :   DSS - Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Ambedkarwada) Aug 4,  staged a dharna demanding the widening work of National Highway 66 be started immediately at Padubidri in Udupi district.   The DSS supports widening of the highway road, which passes through Padubidri town, while another group, Sambhavya Santrastara Horata Samiti, supports a bypass.

The DSS procession, which began from Gurudev Talkies in Padubidri, culminated on the main street, where they held a public meeting.  Speaking on the occasion, Lokesh P., convener of Padubidri unit of DSS, said that the widening was going on smoothly from Talapady to Kundapur except for Padubidri. Some vested interests did not want the widening work to start in Padubidri, he alleged.

Destroying  a Dalit colony and demand a bypass just to save a few buildings on the existing highway is immoral. The delay in widening works had led to road accidents. If there was any further delay in starting the widening work, the DSS will intensify its agitation.
