Mangaluru: Speaking to media, Jana Shikshana Trust Directors Sheena Shetty and Krishna Moolya said that, to create awareness among general public on the need to exercise franchise, Jana Shikshana Trust in association with Apna Desh, Grama Vikasa Kendra, Adivasi Abhivridhi Sangha, Sugrama Sangha of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have created awareness in undivided Dakshina Kannada districts.

Folders have been distributed in villages urging the villagers to exercise their franchise. The awareness programmes have been held in 75 gram panchayats where Sugrama Elected Gram Panchayat Women Members Federations are active in Mangaluru, Puttur, Bantwal and Udupi and 35 Grama Vikasa Kendras.

The members of Sugrama and Grama Vikasa Kendra motivators will visit houses, shops, and other public places to create awareness.  Pamphlets advised citizens in a democratic set up as voters have a responsibility to elect their representatives who will fulfil their aspirations. The voting right should not be wasted at any cost. It is a sacred right given to the citizens in the Indian Constitution. The voters should exercise their franchise responsibly.  It called upon the citizens not to get carried away by the dubious methods followed and false promises made by the candidates. It asked to join hands in forming a good government, which can provide good administration and  free, fair and peaceful elections.
