Truths must surface to enrich society - writers the catalysts

Mangaluru, April 18, 2015: Addressing the gathering  after releasing the book ’Kuber Mudall Puttanna Shetru’ authored by N P Shetty, and published by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, at Academy Hall in Mangaluru on April 17, Friday. Yakshagana scholar Narayana Shetty Shimanthoor said stated that many truths, including those mentioned in Vedas, are hidden by well to to do sections of society, for their selfish motives. The upper section of society has always been prejudiced to other sections of society and kept common people away from truth. Writers and researches should retrive and present such facts.  He also said if writers wish, they can reform society, by discovering the truth. Writers should think independently, without being biased by the opinions of influential sections in society.

Language glossary  :   Scholar Narayana Shetty, also  expressed concern for vanishing  Tulu and Kannada words. One should not neglect the grammar or else, many words will be lost from the glossary of the language, he added.

St Aloysius College lecturer Mahalinga Bhat, introducing the newly released books said that many Indian theories are documented by foreign countries. Unfortunately, people have been ignorant about the significance of sources such as stone inscriptions etc. If the importance had been known, the stone inscriptions, would not have been used as slabs in bathrooms for flooring and to construct houses.

Manuscripts serve as a great source of our cultural history. The Tulu manuscripts recorded by the Basel mission, around 150 years back, is of such a kind.  The publishing of Tulu manuscripts is happening for the first time in the nation, Mahalinga Bhat said.

Karnataka Southern Diocese former Bishop Rev Dr Furtado opined it is not enough to preserve manuscripts but there was a need carry out researches so as to know our past. Rev Dr  Furtado released ’Basel Missionarigala Tulu Tippanigalu’ edited by Dr M S Durga Praveen and Benet G Ammanna. Yakshagana scholar Dr Narayana Shetty Shimanthoor released the book ’Kuber Mudall Puttanna Shetru’ authored by N P Shetty. Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy President Janaki M Brahmavar presided over the programme.
