Udupi, Mar 26, 2015 :  Speaking at the Sri Devara Dasimayya Jayanti celebrations, organised by the district administration and the Department of Kannada and Culture, here.   P. Yuvaraj, president of the Udupi City Municipal Council, said on March 25, that people should follow the ideals of the saint-composer Devara Dasimayya.

He went on to say that  saint-composers such as Basaveshwara, Devara Dasimayya had shown the path of truth to the people. They wrote “vachanas” in simple language, which could be easily understood by the common man. Their “vachanas” had deep philosophical insights, he said.

Delivering a special lecture on the life and achievements of Devara Dasimayya, Meti Mudiyappa, principal of Government Pre-University College, Malpe, said that the “vachanas” written by saint-composers had brought in a change in the religious and spiritual field. The “vachanas” appealed to the people immediately because they were written in a simple and lucid language.    Devara Dasimayya was born in Mudanur near Surpur in Yadgir district. He wrote his “vachanas” under the penname Ramanatha.

Very good  social values could be found in his “vachanas.” He wanted people to have uniformity in their devotion, words and deeds.  His style of writing “vachanas” could be described as “sweet,” one which had to be experience than described,  Mudiyappa said.
