Medha Patkar to inaugurate Boat March to Thiruvananthapuram from Mangaluru on Nov 21

Mangaluru, Nov 19, 2014: With the aim to protect ’Sea, Coast, Inland water bodies and Fish Resources”, Kerala Swathanthra Malsyathozhilaly Federation (KSMTF) in association with National Fishworkers’ Forum (NFF) and ADSGAF to organise ‘Boat March’ from Mangalore to Thiruvananthapuram between 21st – 30th November 2014 to stand in solidarity with the struggling fishworkers all over the country.

Addressing a press meet in Mangaluru, Vasudev Bolooru, the vice-president of NFF said that social activist Medha Patkar will inaugurate the Boat March in Mangalore on Friday November 21 on the occasion of World Fisheries Day at Mangaluru Fishing Harbour on 10.30 am.

T Peter, National Secretary of the Forum said "Public meetings will be held at all fish landing centers and fishing harbors on the route from Mangalore to Thiruvananthapuram. The Boat March will reach at Shangumugham beach, Thiruvananthapuram on November 30th at 6 pm. Many social, cultural, environmental, political and trade union activists will join this programme".

Loknath Bolar, Nitin Kumar and Hajee Hasan of Coastal Karnataka Fishermen Action Committee were also present during the meet.
