Elephant herd damages crops

Mangalore, Oct 26, 2014: According to reports, a herd of wild elephants have damaged crops in Delapmady gram panchayat limits on Oct 24 Friday . The elephants have destroyed over 400 banana, coconut and arecanut trees. Around 300 banana, and two coconut trees belonging to Eluvareguli Thimmakka, five coconut, and 30 arecanut trees of Giridhar Rao of Olekocchi, 100 banana and arecanut trees of Saralaya of Ambithimaru have been damaged.

Along with crops, the elephants have also damaged pumpsets and pipes. The  elephants have created panic among the villagers. The villagers have urged the forest department to find a permanent solution to the elephant menace at the earliest.
