palemarMangalore, October 29, 2009: District-in-charge Minister Krishna Palemar took a walk through Karangalpady - Market Road, Pinto Lane, and Kadri - Mundala Road in the company of engineers and Corporation Commissioner Dr. Vijaya Prakash, after which he expressed his discontentment at the speed at which the work is progressing.

Later, the minister informed press people that a number of factors such as lack of cooperation from the citizens of Mangalore, lack of skilled labour, and so on have been hindering the speedy concretization of the Mangalore roads. He said that the officials and the contractors had a deadline to complete the work.

When told that the quality of the work was substandard, Palemar begged to differ and said that the quality of the work is verified by NITK, a reputed institution in Suratkal.

He also said that the traffic policemen must not hesitate to tow away unauthorized vehicles illegally parked by the roadside in "No Parking" areas.

He assured press people that he would have the contracts allotted to certain contractors cancelled if they showed negligence in finishing their work and place such contractors in the black list.

Palemar held a meeting with Mayor Shankar Bhat, Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj, the corporation commissioner, contractors, engineers, and other high-level officials before checking on the progress of the concretization work.
