DK police plan to install CCTVs in Mangalore

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Jan 31: The DK district police are serious about introducing closed circuit televisions (CCTVs) at 5 prominent traffic junctions in Mangalore. However, it would be quite some time before the CCTVs are actually installed.

IGP of Western Range Gopal B Hosur was the first to suggest the installation of CCTVs during the inauguration ceremony of the 21st Road Safety Week that was observed in January. Now that Hosur is also the police commissioner, he is more eager than ever to take the next required step.

During a press conference, Hosur confirmed that the police department plans to install CCTVs in 5 prominent traffic junctions. SP Dr. A S Rao said that the MCC plans to install CCTVs at 15 significant locations in Mangalore including Lalbagh Junction, Bunts Hostel Circle, A B Shetty Circle, PVS Junction, and Hampankatta Circle.

These CCTVs will enable the traffic police to send traffic violation tickets directly to the offending vehicle owners’ addresses. Police can also identify motorists who make use of mobile phones while driving, drivers who jump signals, and various other offenders who otherwise go unnoticed and unpunished.
