Mangalore, Jan 18: The SDMC-CAC Sadhana Samavesha Sanchalana Samiti of Mangalore will organize a taluk-level meeting in Town Hall, Mangalore, on Jan 19, to discuss the role of the community in effectively implementing quality primary education.

J Krishna Palemar, the district-in-charge minister, will inaugurate the event. Convener of the Samithi Achyuth Gatti will preside over the programme. Reni D’Souza, the director of Valored, will deliver the key-note address.

During a press conference, Achyuth Gatti said that various issues would be placed before the officials concerned, members of the general public, and elected representatives during the meeting.

Reni alleged that the Gram Panchayats are ignoring a state government directive of 2005 to invite the presidents of SDMCs for annual Gram Panchyat meetings. He said that this fact will be drawn to the attention of the officials concerned.

The samithi has already conducted similar meetings in Sullia and Puttur and plans to conduct meetings in Belthangady and Bantwal too. The members of the School Development and Monitoring Committees from 204 schools in the taluk, members of the Citizens’ Amenities Committee, and various officials are expected to participate in the meeting, said Mr. Gatti.
