Former Gram Panchayat president dies in accident

Mangalore, Jan 18: Mijaru Kuchuru Kanthappa Poonja (86), the former president of Gram Panchayat, was killed when a bus collided with his two-wheeler at Farangipete Sujeer on Jan 16, Saturday. 

Kantappa Poonja was returning home from Farangipete, when the accident took place. The local people rushed to the rescue and admitted him to the Bantwal Government Hospital. But, he had died on the way. 

Kanthappa Poonja was responsible for the construction of a school in Sujeer. He had also been the president of Farangipete VSS Bank for nearly 20 years. 

MP Nalin Kumar; K Padmanabha Kottary, the former MLA of Vittla; RSS leader Dr. Prabhakar Bhat; and B Nagaraj Shetty, the president of the Coastal Development Authority; and many other prominent people paid their last respects.
