Mangalroe, Jan 15: Around 206 teachers in government-aided high schools in Dakshina Kannada have not received their salaries since October owing to lack of grants.

High school teachers, and especially those who were appointed in 2009 – 10, have not received any salary because of lack of grants. The salary grants for these teachers were not included in the scheme list for 2009 – 10, because of which the funds were not released. The currently available grants permitted payment of salaries only to 27 Hindi teachers till January. After that, even these teachers were not paid.

The general secretary of the Dakshina Kannada public education department’s state education department has been requested to review the grants. The accounts show that Re 4 crore is pending. About Rs 1.41 crore is required to distribute salary to the teachers. The public education department has approved the accounts. Department sources have revealed that the accounts have now been sent to the finance department.
