KCF decides to support National Fishermen’s Forum

Mangalore, Dec 30: The Karnataka Coastal Fishermen’s Working Committee will support the protest that will be staged in front of the Delhi Parliament House on Jan 11 by the National Fishermen’s Forum. 

This decision was taken during the Karnataka Coastal Fishermen’s Working Committee meeting held at Uchchila on Dec 25. The members of the working committee also decided to stage protests in 3 district centres of coastal Karnataka and meet the Port Minister Krishna J Palemar on Jan 4. 

The protestors will demand that the fishermen should be first consulted before implementing the Fishery Act and CRZ Policy. The demands will also include the provision of diesel subsidy to all fishermen and the upgrading of the savings relief fund to Rs 1,500. 

Pramod Madhwaraj, the president of the working committee, presided over the meeting. P M Tandel, the honorary president, Vasanth Kharvi, Naveen Karkera, Lokesh Mestha, Harishchandra Mendon, Jai Vittal Kubal, and many others participated in the committee meeting.
