Former MLA demands repair of Ashoka pillars

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, Dec 30: U R Sabhapathi, the former MLA, said that the Highway Engineer Department has failed to repair the 2 Ashoka pillars near the entrance of the Udyavar Bridge despite the fact that some mischief-mongers destroyed it long back. He condemned the failure of the department to install new Ashoka pillars.

He brought attention to the fact that in spite of extensive media coverage of the incident of the broken pillars and the fact that state and central ministers, prominent leaders, the superintendent of police, and the district commissioner regularly pass along this highway, the department as well as officials concerned has ignored this insult to the national emblem, he said.

He said that the national emblem is just as important as the national flag in the Indian constitution. He said that a case will be registered against the district commissioner as well as all the officials concerned if they fail to immediately repair the broken pillars.
