Bio fuel project will be extended all over the state: Y B Ramakrishna

Mangalore, Dec 26: Y B Ramakrishna, the chairman of the bio fuel task force, said that the bio fuel project will be extended all over Karnataka at the earliest possible. He spoke while inaugurating a 2-day workshop on “Harisu Honnu,” jointly organized in Guruvayanakere by the bio fuel task force, the Nagarika Seva Trust (NST), and forest departments.

Y B Ramakrishna said that the bio fuel project has been successfully implemented in 15 Gram Panchayats of Davanagere.  A sophisticated laboratory has been established to produce and use bio fuel at the village level. In addition to producing bio fuel in villages, facilities to effectively market bio fuel will also be provided. 

Moreover, the bio fuel task force has plans of forming a partnership with the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Project (MNREGP). He said that the fuel problems of India can easily be solved with the successful implementation of the bio fuel project. 

Speaking about Hasiru Honnu, he said that it is a scheme to establish bio fuel units in villages by taking the help of voluntary organizations and village forest committees. Bio fuel plants have already been set up in 6,000 hectares and soon they will be extended to 25,000 hectares.
