Citizens Surprised by Tight Security along State Coast

23 October 2009

The people of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada are surprised by the continuous patrolling and vigilance of various security agencies on the highways and hinterlands along the state coast for the past 2 days. Besides civilian police, security agencies such as the Coastal Security Force and the district armed reserve police have been deployed to keep an eye on various activities in these areas.

The police have been checking even the two-wheelers. Motorists have been stopped and questioned about their identities. All this has worried the local people. Security around significant places and monuments has been tightened too.

The security agencies have not revealed any information. Some of them have said that the vigil is due to special instructions from the Central Intelligence Agencies. Some local people feel that the security agencies are conducting a mock drill to check the efficiency of the police force in controlling people who hide their identities by deliberating posing as riders in civil clothes.

The police claim that they are not authorized to give any information. However, there are rumors that the reasons for the vigil might be revealed on the evening of October 22, Thursday, because the vigil is to continue till this evening.
