Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Dec 8: Private buses have begun plying again from Mangalore to Kasargod. Private bus operators said that they have submitted an appeal to the Supreme Court and that the buses will continue to ply along the Mangalore - Kasargod route till the Supreme Court reaches a decision.

The Supreme Court had ordered the RTO to cancel the permits of private buses, plying along inter-state routes. As per the court orders, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) of Kasargod had issued a notice to private bus operators to stop plying along the Mangalore - Kasargod route immediately.

Accordingly, the buses stopped plying on Saturday, causing a lot of inconvenience to people who had to regularly travel between Mangalore and Kasargod. However, the Regional Transport Commissioner issued temporary permits to several bus operators to ply till Dec 7, Monday.

Several private bus operators appealed to the Supreme Court to allow them to ply till their permits expire in 2012. The private bus operators also plan to submit an appeal to the State High Court against the notices issued by RTO.

Chandran Nair of RTO said that the State Transport Authority had ordered that the notices should be issued on Saturday. He said the Kasargod Regional Transport Office had nothing to do with it.
