New headmaster appointed for Muslim residential school

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Dec 6: The District Social Welfare Department appointed Murugaiah Kognurmatha as the acting headmaster of the Government Muslim Residential School in Thokottu on Nov 5, Saturday. The move was to satisfy the demands of the school’s Parent Teacher Association, which was unhappy about the apathetic attitude of the previous headmistress, Shahida Banu, toward the plight of the students who did not even have basic facilities such as clean drinking water at the school.

The parents of the school had refused to send their children to school and had demanded immediate transfer of the headmistress. To appease the enraged parents, P Shivashankar, the Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer, told the previous headmistress to go on leave.

The parents, however, are not really happy with the new appointment. Some of them have already noticed the fact that Murugaiah Kognurmatha is only an acting headmaster.

MLA U T Khader said that the school will soon be shifted to a new building. The school will first be shifted to a temporary building, and simultaneously, 5 acres in Manjanady have been identified in order to construct a new school with a hostel and playground, he said.
