Mangalore, Nov 28: The Popular Front of India (PFI) and the Jamat-e-Islami Hind are allegedly harassing a Hindu-Muslim couple who have decided to follow both faiths. The husband is a Muslim and the wife is a Hindu.

On Friday, the husband lodged a complaint at the police station stating that PFI and Jamat-e-Islami Hind activists are harassing his family because he is about to undertake a pilgrimage to Sabarimale. He said that he is afraid to go home for fear of being attacked.

In his complaint, the husband stated that members of the Jamat illegally entered his house in his absence and questioned his wife and mother. The husband alleged that activists of these groups also kidnapped them from the hospital when his wife was pregnant; and a police case regarding this incident has already been registered.

When questioned about the matter, K M Ashraf, the district chief of the Jamat-e-Islami Hind, said that the group doesn’t believe in employing force; however, it is against inter-community marriages. Anwar Sadath, the PFI said that the matter would be investigated and that the PFI is willing to cooperate with the police.
