Chowdiah Award 2009 conferred on Padmashri Kadri Gopalnath

Mangalore, Nov 27: The internationally acclaimed Mangalorean saxophone player Padmashri Kadri Gopalnath, a Kendra Sangeeth Natak Academy award winner, will be awarded the KK Murthy Memorial Chowdiah Award 2009. 

Gopalnath, who lived in Sajipa before shifting to Mangalore, was a disciple of Vidwan N Gopalakrishna. He was the first Carnatic musician to be invited to the Royal Albert Hall, London, to give a performance in the BBC promenade concert in 1994. He has actively participated in great international musical events such as Berlin Jazz Festival, Music Hall Festival in Paris, International Cervantino Festival in Mexico, and Jazz Festival in Prague. 

He has to his credit awards and titles such as Saxophone Chakravarthy, Nadpasana Brahma, Nada Kalarathna, Sangeetha Vadya Rathna, Vocational Excellency Award from the Madras Rotary, Kalaimamani Tamil Nadu State Award, Karnataka Rajyotsava Award 1998, Ganakala Shree, Sunada Prakashika, Nada Kalanidhi, and Karnataka Kalashree 1996
