KERC approved hike in power tariffs

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Nov 26: Electricity bills will go up from December 1. The hike will be anywhere between 30 paise and Rs 1.20 per unit depending on usage and does not apply to those who consume less than 100 units of electricity per month.

The Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) has approved the revised power tariffs presented by 5 electricity companies (Escoms). Accordingly, the revised tariffs will be brought into effect in Bescom (Bangalore), Mescom (Mangalore), CESC (Mysore), Hescom (Hubli), and Gescom (Gulbarga).

These companies demanded tariff revisions on grounds of rise in cost of operation, cost of power, and other expenses. The KERC examined the demands, organized public hearings, and approved the tariff revisions because the situation for these Escoms is different.

Consumers within city corporation limits who consume more than 100 units of electricity will have to pay anywhere between 30 paise and Rs 1.20 per unit. Urban local bodies that consume more than 100 units will be charged 20 - 70 paise per unit. The hike in panchayat areas for those who consume above 100 units is only 10 - 60 paise per unit.
