3 Mangalore sportspersons bag Ekalavya Award

Mangalore, Nov 25:  Three Mangalorean sportspersons, Nayana Shriyan for power lifting, R Poovamma for athletics, and Uday Chowta for Kabbaddi, have bagged the Karnataka Government’s Ekalavya Awards for 2007 and 2008. 

Gulihatti D Shekhar, the minister for sports and youth services, announced the names of the award winners on Wednesday. He said that a total of 30 sportspersons have been selected for the Ekalavya Awards 2007 and 2008. 

Each sportsperson will receive a cash reward of Rs 50,000, a bronze statue of Ekalavya, a set of clothes, and a certificate. The prize amount will rise to Rs 1 lakh from the year 2010, Mr. Shekhar announced.
