Anti Naxal Drive Reaches Successful Conclusion

Mangalore, Nov 14: Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) A R Infant said that the 3-day anti Naxal drive undertaken by the Anti Naxal Force (ANF) and the police force in DK, Shimoga, Udupi, and Chikkamagalur concluded successfully today. 

Infant informed press people that the purpose of the anti Naxal drive was to familiarize the police with the woody terrains and to develop confidence in the local people. During these 3 days, the security agencies spoke to the local people in order to identify their fears and problems. An attempt was made to find solutions to the pressing problems faced by the people of the locality. 

The people of the locality openly supported the drive. Infant said: “The squad was well armed and ready for any attack. Sophisticated technology and arms were used during the anti-Naxal drive.” Infant also said that, owing to the low socio economic status of the people of the locality, Naxalism is a total failure. 

Speaking about Naxalism in the area, IGP (Western Range) Gopal B Hosur said that Naxalism does not have a great influence on these areas because of the strength of the police force. He stated that at least 15 Naxals met encounter deaths in these regions. Moreover, villagers are no longer attracted to Maoists and Naxals, owing to which the police could successfully arrest those distributing Naxal and Maoist literature in these areas. 

Hosur also said that recently two supporters of Naxals were arrested by the Sringeri police. 

ANF DIG Amrith Pal, UK SP Raman Gupta, Udupi SP Prawin Pawar, DK SP Dr. A S Rao, Shimoga SP Murugan, and Chikkamagalur SP M N Nagaraj were present during this occasion.
