Bajarang Dal Unhappy about Kulkunda Cattle Fair

Mangalore Today News Network

Puttur, Nov 5: Pointing out a number of illegal activities that take place at the annual Kulkunda Cattle Fair, Vinay Kumar Kandadka, the convener of Bajarang Dal, Subramanya Taluk, complained that the annual Kulkunda Cattle Fair is losing its original significance. Originally a week-long event, the fair now drags on for 10 days.

The cattle fair, according to him, is soon transforming into a center that supplies cows to slaughter houses. Moreover, the animals are being treated and transported in a very inhuman manner. He is sure that only a small fraction of the cows sold at the fair are used at farms; a majority of them are supplied to abattoirs.

Kandadka informed that, owing to certain strict codes of conduct instituted by the Gram Panchayat of Subrahmanya, the number of cows transported to abattoirs had come down last year. However, nobody is taking those rules seriously this year as a result of which a number of unscrupulous middlemen are producing dozens of fake land documents to gain eligibility to purchase cattle. Besides, nobody at the fair is bothering about obtaining a veterinarian’s certificate before transporting the cattle.

During the press conference, Kandadka expressed his willingness to debate with anybody who disagreed with him. Mr. Ganesh Nair, the taluk convener of Hindu Jagaran Vedike, and Kishore Shirady, the district convener of Dharma Jagaran were also present at the conference.

Kandadka issued a statement that, if nothing is done to change the state of affairs at the fair, the Bajarang Dal in collaboration with Vishwamangala Gau Grama Yatre Samiti and Hindu Jagaran Vedike will place a ban on the fair.
