Officials in Udupi asked to take measures to improve potholed roads

Udupi, Sept 22, 2019: The Udupi District In-Charge Secretary M Maheshwar Rao directed officials to take measures to fill potholes. The heavy rain had left a trail of destruction in the form of potholes on the roads, he added.

Rao was speaking at a meeting held at DC’s office here, on Sept 21, Saturday. He said Panchayat Raj engineering officials should initiate measures to fill potholes on Zilla Panchayat roads. “Proposal should be submitted for releasing grant in order to take up repair works.”

Already Rs 10.85 crore was released to PWD. The repair works will be taken up shortly, officials said.

Rao directed officials to also initiate measures to construct houses for those who had lost houses in rain with help of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation. He said DC, SP, RTO and NH officials should convene a meeting to discuss on cycle friendly zone to check traffic congestion in the district.

Agriculture department officials said that crop survey in the district was underway. All the farmers had been registered under PM Kissan Yojana.

The officials said six lives were lost during the natural calamity in the district. Deputy Commissioner Jagadish, SP Nisha James, DFO Kamala and others were present.
