State celebrates birth anniversary of Hanuman

Udupi, Mar 31: Temples dedicated to Hanuman all over Karnataka celebrated his birth anniversary by organizing a variety of programmes, singing of eulogies and hymns, and others on March 30, Tuesday. 

The Shrikrishna Mukhyaprana Seva Samithi organized programmes in Shrikrishna Mutt in Udupi from morning to night. The festivities culminated in the pulling of seven chariots along Car Street at night. 

Paryaya Shri Lakshmivara Teertha Swamiji, the head of the Shrikrishna Mukhyaprana Seva Samithi, inaugurated a programme of bhajan singing by several troupes. The chief of Shrikrishna Mukhyaprana Samithi, Bhuvanendra Kediyoor, the Diwan of the Mutt Latavya Acharya, and office bearers Vadiraj, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, Manohar Shetty, and others were also present. 

In the evening, devotional songs were sung at Car Street by the ISKCON team, M S Giridhar and Troupe, Saraswathi Troupe of Mysore, and Ganesh Beejady Troupe. Programmes such as Nagaswaram recital and performance of Chende troupes from Kerala were also held. 

The programmes culminated in the grand pulling of the seven chariots along Car Street. A special fireworks show was also arranged. Paryaya Swamiji, the senior and the junior Swamijis of Pejawar Mutt, and Kaniyoor Mutt Swamiji also participated in the Car Festival. 

The idols of Lord Mukhyaprana (Hanuman) were installed at the Mutts of Palimar, Pejawar, Shirur, and others and special poojas were offered on the occasion. Day-long programmes were organized in honor of Lord Hanuman at the Mukhyaprana Temple of Mangalore.
