Kadri temple to hold ’Sarayu Saptaha’, August 6 to 12

Mangaluru, Aug 05, 2019 : Sarayu Bala Yaksha Vrinda Makkala Mela, a children’s Yakshagana troupe, Kodikal, Mangaluru, will organise a Yakshagana week ‘Sarayu Saptaha’, on the premises of Sri Manjunatha Temple at Kadri from 5 pm to 10 pm from August 6 to 12.

Addressing media persons, the Mela director Ravi Alevooraya said Talapady Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple managing committee president Sacchidananda Bhandary Panjala will inaugurate the programme at 5.30 pm on August 6. Sri Kshetra Kadri chief executive officer Dr Ningaiah and Kannada and Culture Department assistant director Rajesh S will be the chief guests. Alevooraya said the valedictory programme of Yakshagana week will be held on August 12 at 5.30 pm. Religious leader and entrepreneur B Raghunath Somayaji will preside over the programme.

Eleven achievers in the field of Yakshagana will be felicitated during the week. ‘Yaksha Ramya’, a book comprising two yakshagana plays, will be released. He said the Mela has completed 18 years and has been performing Yakshagana plays in Kannada, Hindi, Sanskrit, Tulu and English languages. The troupe has also performed at the Kumbha Mela at Prayag Raj, he added. The Mela’s honorary coordinator Harikrishna Punarooru, president Madhusudana Alevooraya, office-bearer Shivaprasad B and Sarayu Mahila Vrinda president Vijayalakshmi were present.

Programmes :    August 6 - ‘Bhisma - Karna’ by various artistes; August 7 - ‘Yakshamani’  (Tulu) by the child artistes of Sarayu Bala Yaksha Vrinda; August 8-’Gurudakshine-Drupada Garva Bhanga’ by the child artistes of Sarayu Bala Yaksha Vrinda; August 9 - ‘Shabarimale Swamy Ayyappa’ by various artistes; August 10 - ‘Devi Mahathme’ by the child artistes of Sarayu Bala Yaksha Vrinda; August 11 - Yakshagana Talamaddale ‘Rati Kalyana’ by the artistes of Sarayu Mahila Vrinda, Kodikal at 9 am; Yakshagana ‘Sudarshana Garvabhanga’ by the artistes of  Sri Durgaparameshwari Venkataramana Temple Mahila Vedike, Mandarabayalau, Derebail at 11 am; ‘Girija Kalyana’ by the artistes of Sri Ramakshatriya Mahila Yakshavrinda, Jeppu at 1 pm; Yakshagana play ‘Rukmini Kalyana’ by the artistes of Yaksha Manjula, Kadri at 3 pm; ‘Bhargava Prapancha’ Yakshagana play by various artistes at 5.30 pm and August 12 - ‘Sri Krishnaleele Kamsavadhe’ by Sarayu Bala Yaksha Vrinda Makkala Mela, Kodikal.
