Mangaluru, Mar 06, 2019: Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) (Southern Circle) K.A. Manoharan on March 5,  Tuesday conducted the mandatory safety and speed trial of the new line between Padil and Jokatte constructed as a part of doubling the Mangaluru Junction-Panambur line under Southern Railway.

Railway officer Manoharan, accompanied by his staff as well as officials from the construction wing of SR and SR’s Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager Pratap Singh Shami, initially inspected the new line (about 11.5 km) and later conducted the speed trial. The inspection special train was operated at speeds up to 110 km per hour during the trial, sources aid.

The officials said the inspection went on smoothly and the CRS may issue authorisation to operate trains on the new lines after being satisfied about the quality. Palakkad Division is optimistic about operating trains on the section by this month-end.

The doubled line would help in reducing congestion at Mangalru Junction and bring down operations time by about 15 minutes. The tunnelling work between Padil and Kulashekara for the new line, however, would take some more time to get completed.
