Emergency disaster handling at NMPT, training today, Feb 11

Mangaluru, Feb 11, 2019: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) will conduct a basic training programme to enhance the preparedness of seaport Emergency Handlers to respond to emergencies at the New Mangalore Port Trust from Monday.

The first of the training programmes would last till February 15, said a release from NMPT here. The training includes handling emergencies such as those emanating from Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) material at seaports. Indian Ports Association, Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied sciences and National Disaster Response Force have joined hands to conduct the programme.

Lectures as well as field training, live demonstrations of detection and decontamination, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment, would form part of the training. Apart from equipping the seaport emergency handlers to handle CBRN emergencies, the training programme would enable them to provide medical first aid and initial psycho-social support.

Experts from the domain departments would deliver lectures and hold demonstrations on various areas related to CBRN emergency management.
