Aikalabava Kambala tomorrow

Mangaluru, Jan 25, 2019: Aikalabava Kambala, the 10th Kambala of the season, will be held at the Kantabare Budabare slushy grounds in Aikala near Kinnigoli on Saturday.

Talking to reporters here, Aikalabava Deviprasad Shetty Belapu said Kambala runners from across the district and from Udupi and parts of Kerala will participate in the competitions that will commence in the evening. Kambala will be conducted in four categories, ‘Kane Haage’, ‘Adda Haaige’, ‘Hagga’ and ‘Negilu’. The winners in each of these category will get 16 grams of gold, followed by 8 grams for the runners-up.

Mr. Shetty said around 11 a.m., foundation stone will be laid for construction of the permanent viewers gallery. The gallery will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 20 lakh given by Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, and Ivan D’Souza, MLC, from their area development funds.

Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda will inaugurate the Kambala around 6.30 p.m.

Chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council Prathapchandra Shetty, district in-charge Minister U.T. Khader, Minister for Minor Irrigation S.R. Mahesh, Minister for Rural Development Krishna Byre Gowda, Minister for Wakf B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan, Udupi district in-charge Minister Jaimala and other elected representatives will participate. B.M. Hegde, former Vice-Chancellor of Manipal Academy of Higher Education Deemed to be University, will be among the four who will be felicitated, Mr. Shetty said.
