Youth dies in accident near Belthangady

Udupi, July 28, 2015: A 21-year-old youth riding pillion on a motorcycle died after the two-wheeler rammed a bus in Belthangady police limits on Monday afternoon.

The police gave the name of the deceased as Prashanth, a resident of Dharmasthala. Sandesh was riding the motorcycle.

The two were on their way towards Charmadi from Ujire.

According to the complaint, the motorcycle hit an oncoming KSRTC bus bound to Udupi from Bengaluru. Both of them were admitted to a hospital in Ujire where Prashanth died of injuries. The Belthangady police have registered a case.

Woman dies

Taniyaru (70), a domestic help, died after a jackfruit fell on her in Uppinangady police limits on Sunday.

According to the police, Taniyaru was doing her daily routine at the courtyard of her neighbour’s house when the incident occurred in HIrebandadi village. The Uppinangady police have registered a case of unnatural death.

Gang held

The district police arrested four members of a gang from Rajasthan, who were involved in four cases of thefts in three different places in Udupi district between July 1 and July 7.

Santosh Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu on Monday that the four of them were travelling by a mini-lorry when they were arrested at Siddapura village coming under Shankarnarayana police station in Kundapur taluk on July 26.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team stopped the truck moving from Bengaluru to Kundapur and searched it at Siddapur around 4 p.m. on Sunday.

During the operations, a pistol, five bullets, 20 mobile telephones, a cutter and wooden rods were recovered from them.

The arrested have been identified as Giridharlal (21), Manikchand (38), Prakash (24) and Sunil Sen (19). All the four are from Pale district in Rajasthan.

Other members of the gang, Nathuram, Bada Dinesh and Chota Dinesh, are absconding. The police are trying to trace them. This gang had targeted and conducted theft in mobile telephone, electrical and electronic goods shops in the district.

On interrogation, the four arrested persons confessed to having been involved in a case of theft in each in Koteshwar village and Karkala town and two cases of theft in Hemmady village between July 1 and July 6.

The police have also seized nearly 60 per cent of electrical, electronic goods and mobile sets from the gang.

A case had been registered .

The four accused were produced in a court in Kundapur on Monday, which remanded them in police custody for five days, Mr. Kumar said.

Man electrocuted

A person was electrocuted when he came into contact with a live electricity wire at Uliyargoli village near Kaup on Monday.

According to the police, Gurava Serigar (55) came in contact with the wire and was rushed to the Primary Health Centre in Kaup, where he was pronounced dead by the doctors.

A case had been registered at Kaup police station and investigation was on, the police said.
