Mangaluru :  Till a few years ago noting down every reminder and complaint, and get them signed by parents as a proof that the information has been communicated to them was the norm. Introduction of apps has made work easier. Parents with smartphones can get every notification on their cellphone screen instantly," said M Ranganath Bhat, honorary secretary of the Canara High School Association.

The association has a group of institutions with 10,000 students. At present, the system has been adopted in Canara School-CBSE and the trial run is on for Canara Higher Primary School, Urwa.

"The service will be extended to more than 8,000 children belonging to the association’s institutions in the coming days," he said. The association is using ’Uolo Notes app’.

Joy J Rai, principal, Canara High School CBSE, said the app will send attendance details, notes, question papers, invites and emergency communications. "It is a one-way communication app and text messages are sent for those who don’t have smartphones. However, the same old diary system is still maintained because students are not able to give it up. When the diary system was in place some kids never showed it to their parents, but this will not happen now. The message will reach them even before the child reaches his/her home". The school has more than a thousand students.

Gone are the days when the school diary was the only means of communication between teachers and parents. The advent of mobile phone apps has seen many schools in the state’s education hub adopt them for easier communication of day-to-day happenings including home work.  But, how good will it be for section of parents with certain constraints?
