Udupi, Feb 21, 2017: In its efforts to make technology a more effective tool in lecture halls, Manipal University on Monday launched a virtual classroom at Manipal Institute of Technology’s Sir M.V. Seminar Hall.

Launching the online classroom at a live demonstration, Ranjan Pai, CEO and MD of Manipal Education and Medical Group, Bengaluru, urged everyone to make the best use of the technology to enrich the learning experience.

Soon, the Manipal group campuses at Jaipur, Sikkim and Dubai will be linked through the virtual classroom. H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University, said the technology in the classroom could change the concept of teaching and learning in a classroom.

G.K. Prabhu, director of MIT, said the virtual classroom was started in Sir M.V. Seminar Hall so that other institutions of the university could make use of the facility. “Students from remote campuses can join and have a two-way audio and video interaction in real time with faculty and other students,” he said.

Balakrishna Rao, chief information officer, Manipal Global Education, said the online classroom would allow participants to communicate with each another, view presentations and videos, and engage with resources in work groups.
