Villagers around Kaiga worried about deteriorating health conditions

Villagers around Kaiga worried about deteriorating health conditions

Mangalore Today News Network

Kaiga 2Sirsi, Dec 5: The villagers in the neighborhood of Kaiga are scared, and they have many reasons to worry. They are not only worried about the harmful radiations emanating from the plant, but also about their deteriorating health conditions.

In the first place, the villages of Kalache, Maavinamane, Malavalli, Baasalebare, and Erapura are on elevated ground compared the nuclear plant. If anything goes wrong at Kaiga, the people of these villages will also be affected.

Moreover, more and more villagers, especially the young and middle-aged, are being diagnosed with cancer. Villagers affected with any other diseases take a longer time than usual to recover. A health report submitted by the Uttara Kannada District Environment Conservation Committee, which is based on a health survey conducted in these villages, has been completely ignored by the authorities concerned.

Right now, nobody is bothered about the health and well-being of these villagers. They are uneasy about the nuclear plant and wonder if it is responsible for their deteriorating health condition. They hope that someone makes a study of the situation and brings it to the notice of the apathetic government.
