Vehicle jatha propagates Ambedkar’s ideals

Vehicle jatha propagates Ambedkar’s ideals

Mangalore Today News Network

Udupi, April 15, 2015 : A vehicle jatha was organised by the districts units of Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike (KKSV) and Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (DSS) to propagate the ideals of the architect of Indian Constitution B.R. Ambedkar on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the inauguration of the jatha, G. Rajashekar, writer and president of district unit of KKSV, said that Ambedkar’s ideals were more relevant now. People should read about the life and achievements of Ambedkar. This would give them a better idea of the insurmountable odds he overcame, he said, adding that Ambedkar was a man of principles.

Resignation speech

Speaking in the Parliament after his resignation from the Cabinet to the then Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on September 27, 1951, Ambedkar had said that he did not want to occupy an ornamental position as Law Minister in the cabinet.

He disagreed with Nehru on the Kashmir issue and his foreign policy. He was also sore that the Hindu Code Bill had been kept in the cold storage in his resignation. “It is essential that people read the speech of Ambedkar after resigning from the Union Cabinet,” Mr. Rajashekar said.

It was strange that the some reactionary organisations were now in a race to appropriate Ambedkar. But on the other hand, these organisations were holding programmes such as “Ghar Wapsi”, he said.

K. Phaniraj, vice-president of district unit of KKSV, said that Ambedkar was not a leader just of the Dalits but of all Indians. It was unfortunate Ambedkar’s works were not being published, he said.
