Vedike demands action against buses violating route permits

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, June 18, 2017: Nagarika Hita Vedike has urged the Regional Transport Office to initiate action against those buses that are violating route permits in Mangaluru.

Gerald Towers of the Vedike, who spoke to media persons, said that a few buses have been issued permits to operate upto Mallikatte and Mangaladevi. However, they are illegally operating to State Bank terminus.

He said, "In case of accident while plying to State Bank, then the insurance firm will not provide any insurance compensations. In such a scenario who will take up the responsibility of the safety of the public? Will the officials take up the responsibility?"

The very purpose of issuing permits to Mallikatte and Mangaladevi is to ensure that traffic congestion in Hampankatte area is controlled. Violating the route permits, defeats the very purpose.

The bus owners operating to Mangaluru Service Bus Stand and State Bank had submitted complaints to the competent authority on the violation of the permits. The buses, instead of arriving at Mallikatte bus stand, ply from Bendoor to State Bank, he added.

"If the authorities fail to initiate measures, then the vedike will file a PIL in the court," he warned. The authorities should initiate action against shrill horns, he urged.

The buses’ footboard are too high and cause inconvenience to the senior citizens in boarding the buses, he said.

A complaint in this regard will be submitted to the deputy commissioner, th ecity police commissioner and the ACP (Traffic), he said.
