Unknown miscreants burn Dalit woman’s brand new house

Belthangady, Dec 21: Unknown miscreants have burned down a house belonging to Akkoji, the wife of late Babu. The house was located in Laila, a village at Guringana, Belthangady. 

Akkoji is a very poor woman who had built the house with great difficulty. She was planning to hold the house-warming ceremony on Sunday. She was the rightful owner of the 2.75 acres of land, on which she had built the house; and moreover, she had all the documents related to the land and the house. 

Some days ago, Akkoji had protested against some people who had tried to build a house on her land. 

Ishwar Bhaira, the former member of the Taluk Panchayath, visited the spot. He demanded that the miscreants must be found immediately and that stern action should be taken against them. He also urged the police to register a case as per Dalit Harrassment Prevention Act.
