Ukkinadka Medical College yet to get off the ground

Mangalore Today News Network

The ambitious project of Government Medical College has failed to take off with the work on the building remaining incomplete for the last one year.

The College is to come up on 62.5 acre land in Ukkinadka in Kasargod district. The foundation for the college building was laid by Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in November 2013 and the work has not seen any progress to this day. To urge the government to accelerate the work, Janapara Kriya Samithi will stage a protest meet on November 1. The decision of the committee has come on the wake of zero response from the government to the petitions submitted in this regard.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Badiadka Gram Panchayat Standing Committee President Mahin Kelot.  The committee has claimed that the work on the Medical College in Ukkinadka has remained stagnant from the stage of ground breaking, while the buildings of medical colleges at Manjeri, Idukki and Konni have progressed. The Medical College in Palghat has already been inaugurated.

He said if the medical college comes up in Ukkinadka, then it will benefit endosulfan victims of Padre, Vaninagara, Kumbdaje and Bellur areas.  Madhur Gram Panchayat President Madhav, Enmakaje GP President J S Somshekhar have also urged the government to complete the work on the building at the earliest.

Opposing the stand of the government to shelve the ambitious project, Yuva Morcha district Committee members will stage a stir on October 30 at 10 am.  A protest rally will be taken out from Perla to Ukkinadka.
